Petrol to hit $1.50

Motorists should brace for a hit to the hip pocket at the bowser, with economists predicting the average price of unleaded petrol in the Perth metropolitan area will soon rocket to $1.50 a litre.

Watchdog Fuelwatch said yesterday prices were expected to go up again tomorrow, pushing the average price of unleaded towards last Thursday's two-year high of $1.36 a litre.

CommSec chief economist Craig James said demand for crude oil was being driven by the recovery of the global economy and resource-hungry developing nations. The price of crude oil rose to $US91.30 a barrel yesterday afternoon.
